Carolyn Afari

Carolyn M. Afari joined my law firm in May of 2017. Carolyn was admitted to the State Bar of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 2012. Carolyn received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California in Business Administration with an emphasis in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, and Business Consulting. After several years of doing government contract negotiations for a Fortune 500 military defense contractor, Carolyn returned to school and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los Angeles, School of Law. While in school, Carolyn dedicated countless hours tutoring other law students in subjects including, Contract, Property, Torts, Evidence, Civil Procedure, Legal Research and Writing, and Remedies.

Prior to joining my firm, Carolyn worked for the Law Offices of M. Jonathan Hayes, Simon Resnik Hayes LLP, and then as a sole proprietor, primarily handling Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases, and Adversary Proceeding cases. In 2012, Carolyn was invited back to the University of West Los Angeles, School of Law as an adjunct professor for one year to teach Legal Research and Writing. Carolyn concentrates her practice in bankruptcy and civil litigation. She has represented individual and business Chapter 11 debtors, confirmed successful reorganization plans, represented creditors including home owners associations, and sold real properties through bankruptcy sales. Additionally, Carolyn has prosecuted and defended complaints to declare debts non-dischargeable. Carolyn co-authored a law school textbook used by M. Jonathan Hayes called A Summary of the Law of Business Organizations by M. Jonathan Hayes and Carolyn M. Afari © 2015. Carolyn has been selected to the Super Lawyers – Southern California Rising Stars List for 2014-2017. Carolyn is fluent in Farsi and conversant in Spanish. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her family and friends and giving back to her community.
